Nominations are now open for ILA Canada's Inaugural Awards

We are pleased to announce that ILA Canada is launching three inaugural awards this year to recognize outstanding contributions to international law in Canada. As a member of ILA Canada, you are well-placed to put forward a deserving colleague, and self-nominations are equally welcome.Nominations are open for the following awards and must be submitted no later than 1 September 2026 via the nomination form here.

 

Armand de Mestral Thesis Prize — Awarded to up to two master's or doctoral theses in international law defended within the past two years. If short-listed, nominators should email an electronic copy of the thesis and a 200-word biography to Awards@ila-canada.ca, or arrange for two physical copies to be sent to an address provided at that stage.

 

Prize for Outstanding Book — Awarded to up to two books in international law published within the past six years. If short-listed, nominators should arrange for the publisher to send a digital copy and a 200-word biography of the author(s) or editor(s) to Awards@ila-canada.ca, or two physical copies to an address provided at that stage.

 

International Law Practice and Impact Award — Recognizes up to two international lawyers who have made substantial contributions to the field over the course of their career. If short-listed, nominators should email a CV and two supporting letters to Awards@ila-canada.ca.

 

Juries will assess nominations on the basis of rigour, excellence, originality, and impact, and will take an equity-informed and linguistically and regionally-balanced approach to selection. Please note that nominees must be members of ILA Canada and must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
