The recording of the webinar Business & human rights: The international advisory opinions on climate change held February 12, 2026 by ILA Canada in collaboration with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) of the University of Ottawa is now available.

The International Law Association of Canada is pleased to collaborate with HRREC on a webinar series about Business & Human Rights, a multidisciplinary field of research that examines the human rights and environmental implications of business activity and considers how to prevent and redress such harm. It is also an area of social advocacy, legal practice, and consultancy.

This first webinar considered the recent ground-breaking advisory opinions on climate change rendered by the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea, (ITLOS), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR), and their implications for business and human rights. Experts discussed the genesis of these cases, the issues before each of the courts, and aspects of the rulings that have implications for the business and human rights normative framework.

Assistant Professor Chiara Macchi, Law Group, Wageningen University
